Wow - two great comments, each supporting different sides. I love it - thanks for sharing Tracy and Mark. While you both have different positions - the one consistent message is to simply take action and manage the tv rather than letting tv/cable manage us.

For me, the withdrawals would be endless. Luckily, cable/satellite offers a number of options that, if used the right way, can keep us from being "couch potatoes", but offer that escape from work or quiet time with family. People often blame inactivity, underdevelopment, and improper behavior in children on television programming. The responsibility lies with the individual to make absolutely sure that the broadcast media doesn't have a negative impact on that person's life. "Don't drop" cable, drop the remote when the time for duty calls for it.

I know Brian as a responsible and motivated person, so in no way does my response apply to you, but only to those who play the blame game.

I completely agree. My family has ditched cable/satellite in favor of watching DVDs and shows online. Now my money is spent on specific shows/movies that we want to watch and without commercials. Instead of paying at least twice as much for cable/satellite and having lame programing saturated with commercials. By limiting screen time to only desired shows, my kids play with their toys more and with each other more because the TV isn't just left on. It's better this way.
